Tracking the programme while the job is running.

A programme is only useful if someone keeps it current. Progress is measured against the baseline, the programme is updated, and the position is reported in a form the project team and the client can act on: what has moved, what is driving it, and what it means for the dates that matter. This can run as a monthly cycle alongside the site team, and it does not require the project to be in difficulty.

Short-term lookaheads sit underneath the main programme, covering the next few weeks in the detail the site needs to plan labour, deliveries and interfaces.

When the position has moved, replan it.

Recovery planning starts with an honest view of where the project actually is. Until progress is established against the programme rather than against the original intent, any recovery plan is guesswork. The first task is to record the position, identify what is driving it and set out the constraints the remaining work has to deal with.

From there the remaining work is planned: a programme for what is left, short-term lookaheads the site team can work to, and commentary on the key risks to the dates that matter. Where time can be recovered, the options are set out with what each one requires.

Ongoing support through to completion.

This can be a one-off exercise or a regular cycle of progress reviews, programme updates and reporting, with the level of input and the reporting cycle matched to the project. Completion planning and phased handovers are covered as part of the same work where the scheme needs it.

The output is a clear view of the current position, the remaining sequence and the available options. It does not guarantee that lost time can be recovered.

What is produced.

  • Progress measurement & programme updates
  • Monthly progress reporting & key risk commentary
  • Short-term lookaheads for the site team
  • Remaining-work & recovery programmes
  • Completion & phased handover planning

Common questions.

Is this only for projects that are behind?

No. Progress measurement, programme updates and monthly reporting run on projects that are performing normally, and are what make it possible to see a problem early. Recovery replanning is what happens if the position moves.

What is a recovery programme?

A recovery programme is a replanned sequence for the remaining works, prepared once actual progress has been established. It sets out how the outstanding work is intended to be completed and what the revised sequence depends on.

What is a lookahead?

A short-term lookahead is a detailed programme covering the next few weeks of work, produced so the site team can plan resources, deliveries and interfaces at a level of detail the overall programme does not carry.

Is support available on an ongoing basis?

Yes. Progress reviews, programme updates, lookaheads and reporting can run as a regular cycle through to completion, with the frequency and level of input agreed for the project.
